A trigger point is a small patch of muscle that has locked itself into contraction and will not let go. It feels like a hard pea or a taut band under the skin, it hurts when pressed, and it often sends pain somewhere else entirely. A knot in the upper trap that gives you headaches. A point in the glute that mimics sciatica down the leg.
Massage and stretching work on the surface of that problem. A fine needle placed directly into the trigger point works on the problem itself. The muscle gives a brief twitch, which is the knot letting go, and the relief after a good release is often immediate.
That is dry needling. It is called dry because nothing is injected. The needle itself, placed precisely, does the work.
What We Use Dry Needling For
Dry needling shines when the main pain generator is a muscle trigger point. At our Sector 52 clinic the common cases are:
- Neck and upper-trap knots from long laptop hours, the classic desk-job pattern in Noida
- Tension headaches that start from the neck and shoulders
- Frozen shoulder, to release the guarded muscle around the joint so mobilisation works better
- Tennis elbow and forearm pain that keeps returning
- Piriformis and glute trigger points that mimic sciatica
- Calf, hamstring, and quad tightness in runners and gym-goers
- Chronic low back pain where the muscle stays in constant guarding
If your pain is coming from a nerve root, a disc, or a joint, needling a muscle will not solve it. The assessment before the first needle exists to catch exactly that, and to route you to the right treatment instead.
What a Session Looks Like at Sector 52
Assessment
We map your pain pattern, test movement, press to find the exact trigger points, and screen your history and medications. Included in the fee, and it decides which points get needled and which do not.
Needling
A fine sterile single-use needle goes directly into the trigger point. You feel a deep ache and often a brief twitch, which is the release. Each point takes under a minute. Most sessions cover 2 to 6 points.
Follow-Through
Released muscle needs to be taught to stay released. We follow the needling with stretching, activation work, or manual therapy in the same visit, depending on what your case needs.
Aftercare & Plan
Expect mild soreness for 24 to 48 hours, like a good workout. You get clear aftercare guidance and an honest answer on how many more sessions, if any, your pattern needs.
Dr. Purti Shukla · MPT (Sports) · Certified in Dry Needling
"Patients often come in after months of massages for the same knot. When the needle finds the point and it twitches, they feel the difference on the way home. My job is to make sure we also fix why that knot formed, so they do not keep coming back for the same spot."

How It Works, and How It Differs from Acupuncture
The needle looks the same, so the confusion is fair. The thinking behind it is completely different. Acupuncture comes from traditional Chinese medicine and places needles along energy meridians. Dry needling comes from Western anatomy. The needle goes into a specific trigger point that we located by hand, in a muscle we identified from your movement assessment.
When the needle enters the trigger point, the taut band gives a brief involuntary twitch and then relaxes. Blood flow returns to tissue that was strangling itself, the chemical soup that kept the point irritated washes out, and the referred pain pattern fades over the next day or two.
For broad regional stiffness rather than a single point, cupping therapy is often the better first tool, and the combo session at ₹1,200 covers both. Your assessment decides which you need, not the menu.
Does It Hurt, and Who Should Skip It
Honest answer: it is briefly uncomfortable, not painful the way people fear. The needle going through skin is barely felt. The moment it reaches the trigger point you feel a deep, dull ache and often the twitch, which lasts a second. Most patients describe the next 24 to 48 hours as workout soreness, and the original pain noticeably lighter underneath it.
We use sterile, single-use needles, opened in front of you, every time. And there are cases where we will choose a different tool:
- Blood thinning medication or a bleeding disorder
- Active skin infection or an unhealed wound over the point
- Lymphedema in the target area
- First trimester of pregnancy, and certain areas throughout pregnancy
- Strong needle fear, in which case cupping and manual therapy do the job instead, no pressure
Your first assessment covers all of this before any needle comes out.
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Dry needling at Dynamics Mend is done after an in-person assessment by a qualified physiotherapist.
