Most people who walk in asking for cupping have already tried the usual route. Painkillers that wear off by evening. Massages that feel great for a day. Stretching videos that never quite reach the knot. The tightness always comes back, because the tissue itself is starved of circulation and stuck in a guarding pattern.
Cupping breaks that pattern. The suction lifts the skin and the fascia under it, pulls fresh blood into tissue that has been running dry, and gives the nervous system a strong new signal that lets the muscle stand down. That is why the relief from a good cupping session tends to hold longer than a massage.
One thing we will say upfront: cupping at a physiotherapy clinic is not the same thing as cupping at a salon. Here, the cups go where your assessment says the problem is, not where a menu says they should go.
What We Use Cupping For
Cupping earns its place in a treatment plan when the main problem is tight, overworked, poorly circulated muscle. At our Sector 52 clinic the common cases are:
- Back and neck stiffness from long desk hours, the classic upper-trap and shoulder-blade knots
- Sports recovery for runners and gym-goers, tight calves, quads, hamstrings after long runs or leg day
- Muscle knots and trigger points that keep returning even after massage
- Frozen shoulder, as an add-on that reduces guarding so mobilisation can go deeper
- Headaches that start from neck and shoulder tension
- IT band and hip tightness that will not respond to foam rolling
If your pain is coming from a nerve, a disc, or a joint rather than a muscle, cupping alone will not solve it. The assessment at the start of every session exists exactly to catch that, and to route you to the right treatment instead of selling you more cups.
What a Session Looks Like at Sector 52
Assessment
We check your movement, pain history, and medications, and screen for the conditions where cupping should be skipped. This is included in the session fee, and it decides where the cups go and what we pair them with.
Cup Placement
Sterile, single-use cups are placed in clinical patterns over the tight tissue for 5 to 15 minutes. You feel a strong pulling for the first few seconds, then the area starts to relax. It is not painful.
Release Work
Once the tissue softens, we use the window it gives us. Manual therapy, stretching, or dry needling on the same visit if your case needs it. This pairing is what makes clinical cupping hold longer than a spa session.
Aftercare & Plan
You get clear guidance on the marks, what to do and avoid for the next 24 hours, and an honest answer on whether you need more sessions or a proper rehab plan for the underlying cause.

Dr. Sidharth Narayan · Certified Cupping Specialist
"The most common thing I hear after a first session is that no massage ever reached that spot. Cupping reaches it because we first find out exactly which muscle is holding the pattern, then treat that one properly."
Every cupping protocol at the clinic is reviewed by founder Dr. Purti Shukla, MPT (Sports), BPT.

Cupping or Dry Needling?
Patients ask this almost every day, and the honest answer is that they solve the same family of problems from two different directions. Cupping works on an area, lifting tissue and flooding a whole region with fresh blood. Dry needling works on a point, releasing one specific trigger point with a fine needle.
Broad stiffness across the back or legs usually responds better to cupping. A single stubborn knot that refers pain, the kind you can point at with one finger, usually responds better to dry needling. Many of our best results come from the combo session at ₹1,200, where cupping opens the region and needling finishes the specific point. Your assessment decides, not the menu.
Marks, Safety, and Who Should Skip It
The round marks are the first thing everyone asks about. They are pooled stagnant blood drawn to the surface, they are painless, and they fade in 3 to 7 days. Darker marks do not mean a better session, they usually just mean tighter tissue.
We do dry cupping only. No cuts, no bleeding, no hijama. And there are situations where we will refuse to do cupping, because it is the right call:
- Blood thinning medication or a known bleeding disorder
- Active skin infection, rash, or an unhealed wound in the target area
- First trimester of pregnancy, and certain areas throughout pregnancy
- Severe varicose veins over the target area
- Fever or an active systemic illness on the day
Your first assessment covers all of this. If cupping is not safe for you, we say so and use other physiotherapy tools that are.
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Cupping at Dynamics Mend is done after an in-person assessment by a qualified physiotherapist.
